Chester & District Samaritans have been awarded a massive cash grant of £4,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.
Thank you, if you collected tokens at the check-out in a Chester Tesco store while shopping during September and October 2018 and put them into the Chester Samaritans hopper!
Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to create this wonderful community funding scheme and we were very fortunate to have been shortlisted to receive a cash award.
The grant will help us deliver more of the vital preventative work we do in primary schools, where we illustrate to children (through a series of fun exercises and talks) the vital importance of keeping emotionally healthy. We'll also be able to leave a small gift to each pupil to help them remember us and the service we offer.
Alec Brown, Head of Community at Tesco, said:
“Bags of Help has been a fantastic success and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from customers. It’s such a special scheme because it’s local people who decide how the money will be spent in their community.
Groundwork’s National Chief Executive, Graham Duxbury, said:
“Bags of Help continues to enable local communities up and down Britain to improve the local spaces and places that matter to them. We are pleased to be able to be a part of the journey and provide support and encouragement to help local communities thrive.”
We’re also being supported by Chester’s very own fabulous Storyhouse performance arts centre, who will make a short film for us to use in secondary schools to facilitate discussion. They said
‘'We are proud to be teaming up with Chester Samaritans and we will be working with young people through theatre to explore the importance of talking about how you feel.”
Again, thank you for voting for us in Tesco in September and October 2018!
