Could you help someone in distress?
We need two types of volunteer :
- Listening volunteers – to give emotional support to our callers by any, or all of - telephone calls, emails received, online chat contacts received.
- Listening volunteers do so in our branch once a week for 3 hours; one shift in every month is an overnight shift of 3 hours.
- Support volunteers - to help us promote and run our service.
- Our recruitment volunteers are looking for Support Volunteers to advertise our ongoing need for listening volunteers, by assisting in maintaining our website and Twitter (X) account, for example. Also, by distributing our Recruitment flyers and cards as widely as possible, e.g., doctor’s surgeries, libraries, supermarkets, village halls, anywhere they can be seen.
- Our training volunteers are also looking for Support Volunteers to assist in the many admin tasks associated with delivering several face-to-face and online training sessions every year.
We welcome new volunteers because we really want to help to reduce the number of unanswered calls across the UK. So if you're interested in becoming a Samaritan we would love to hear from you.
We hold regular Welcome Events (in advance of inviting you to an interview), to provide an insight into the service we offer, how we deliver it and the process involved in becoming a Samaritan, including training.
To access the online enquiry process and generate an invite to a Welcome Event, please visit -
