Charity match raised over £600!
A football team from two different eras took part in a Charity Match at Vauxhalls Sports Club Ellesmere Port in early July, raising over £600 for Chester Samaritans. Players were drawn from those who played 10-12 years ago,
and the team they are today, Vauxhall’s Sutton Colts Football Club.
Leigh Hart, who organised the match with the aid of Danny Carrol, Leonard Jones and Tom Colclough, explained
We’ve had a few people within the team directly affected by mental health related issues from friends and family, and a few of the lads playing today who served our country in the armed forces have seen the effect mental health has had on their friends and colleagues. This was the driving factor for raising money for Chester Samaritans.
As Mike Nicol, Branch Director of Chester Samaritans said
Local initiatives like this not only provide much needed funds to keep Chester Samaritans running, they also tell our volunteers just how much they are appreciated. We sincerely hope that this event becomes a regular one, and look forward to cheering both sides on in future matches.
Leigh is already thinking about next year -
Hopefully, next year will be bigger and better!
