With some serious prep beforehand!
Chester Samaritans are incredibly lucky to benefit from the many and varied fundraising activities run by Eaton Estate Office employees as their adopted charity. Coincidentally, for the last two years during July Samaritans have organised a virtual marathon – Samarathon - and Estate employee Tim just couldn’t miss this opportunity to stretch himself with a challenge:
Apparently, there is an annual competition to see who can summit Mount Snowdon the most times in a day, with three considered to be the minimum. Not at all sure he’d be able to do it he decided he’d aim for that gruelling minimum and set up a Samarathon fundraising and training progress page here.
He did it!
He started and finished in Llanberis; went via the ridge connecting the mountains Moel Eilio and Foel Goch and ‘wandered off’ over Moel Cynghorion on the way, eventually joining the Ranger Path to the summit.
Next he went down the Pyg track, then followed the Miner's track to the top of (the lake) Llyn Llydaw and back up to the summit again, this time by scrambling (on hands and knees, it’s steep and precarious ) via Y-Lliwedd mountain.
Finally, well into the evening he went down the Watkins path, across and back up to the summit for the 3rd time via the slightly easier Rhyd-Ddu path. And down again via the kinder Llanberis path.
Tim’s fundraising page is still open for more donations if you'd like to reward this herculean achievement!
