During 2023/24:
- 23,000 people volunteered their time for Samaritans.
- Every 10 seconds, Samaritans answered a 'phone, email or Online Chat call for help.
- More than 3.3 million calls for help were answered by Samaritans volunteers.
- Almost 1,500 people in prison volunteered as prison Listeners.
And we're really proud to be part of the hugely respected national charity Samaritans, who drive our campaigns; such as ' Real People, Real Stories'.

Could you be a listening volunteer to help people when they most need it? You will receive full training, followed by mentoring support so that you will feel confident in using your new skills during conversations with callers. Or could you support our branch and Listening Volunteers by being a valued Support Volunteer? Our Outreach Director (outreach@chestersamaritans.com) would love to hear from you if you would like to -
- organise an individual or group fundraising event for us
- arrange a talk about what we do
- offer us a table or pitch to promote our service at your event
Our Schools outreach team(schools_outreach@chestersamariatans.com) would also love to hear from education professionals and youth group leaders who would like to arrange a talk aimed at young people from school age year 9 and upwards on the importance of emotional health and well being.
