For over four years, Cheltenham Samaritans have been working with the wellbeing team at University of Gloucestershire to support wellbeing initiatives in the university.
It is so important to raise awareness of services such as Samaritans for students who don’t reach out for support from student services.
At our 2023 annual general meeting, it was great to hear from Anna Hay (Head of Student Wellbeing at University of Gloucestershire). Anna helped us understand some of the challenges faced by students at different points in the academic year including
- Isolation
- Losing support from family
- Financial concerns and budgeting
- Fear of academic failure
- Relationship issues
- Changes in identity
As well as describing the support services available to students, Anna spoke warmly about the links there are between University of Gloucestershire and Samaritans. She knows that some students don’t reach out for support to student services and it’s important for them to know that one options is to call Samaritans.
