Andy Goddard took on the role of branch director on 23rd March.
Taking over from Helen as branch director, Andy said: "It's such a privilege to be asked to lead our Samaritans branch. I became a listening volunteer three years ago and each shift I have done has reinforced how important the work we all do is to support those who are struggling to cope."
Andy knows how important the role of listening volunteer is, and everything he does will be focused on helping the branch volunteers to be there for our callers. He is passionate about supporting the local community and is keen to consolidate the work the branch does to provide emotional support as part of its outreach activities. One of his first priorities will also be to reinstate the face to face listening service at Cheltenham branch.
Until recently, Andy's career has been in the energy industry as a physicist, engineer and leader. When not volunteering, he enjoys cycling and walking and is currently preparing to walk the Ridgeway in June. He lives in Cheltenham with his wife and two daughters.
