Working with GWR, we are pleased to have installed two planters with Samaritans awareness signs on them at Cheltenham Spa railway station.
Samaritans works closely with Network Rail and local train operating companies to reduce suicide on the railways, and to support anyone affected by suicide on the railway. This partnership includes engaging the rail industry in suicide prevention and support activities; reaching out to those most at risk through awareness campaigns; training rail industry staff in suicide prevention; supporting people affected by a suicide on the railway; volunteer outreach and support at stations; working with the media on responsible reporting; and working with police and health services.
Locally, Cheltenham and District Samaritans works with Cheltenham Spa and Kemble stations, with volunteers attending these stations on the first Mondays of each month to raise awareness of Samaritans service, and to offer emotional support.
As part of our 60th anniversary celebrations this year, we are delighted to have worked with GWR to have two planters installed at Cheltenham Spa railways station, with Samaritans signs on them. These planters can be seen by passing train passengers as well as those waiting for their trains.
Speaking about the initiative, Cheltenham MP Alex Chalk said, "It recognises the important contribution that Cheltenham Samaritans has made over the last 60 years and provides a colourful and important reminder for anyone visiting the station that help is available.”
