Cheltenham Samaritans to visit Long Lartin prison to celebrate 30 years of the prison Listeners scheme.
We’re proud to work with Long Lartin to train and support Listeners to provide emotional support in prison. This week Samaritans and HMPPS are celebrating 30 years of the life-saving support that Listeners provide in prisons.
HMP Long Lartin is doing us proud on Wednesday 29 September. Ten of our prison team as well as our Branch Director and Deputy are invited to the prison. We shall be honouring our four remaining Listeners who have done amazing work during the pandemic. They have been allowed to invite three family members each and in addition there will be 14 men selected to start Listener training the following week. Our work with the Listeners was disrupted by the pandemic, so we are pleased to be able to visit the prison again to support our existing Listeners and to provide training.
The #1 Governor will present one of the Listeners with a 10-year-long service certificate. All four Listeners will receive thank you letters from the prison, as well as thank you cards and wrist bands from the Samaritans. The prison is giving us all a buffet. It's a wonderful endorsement of the scheme.
