It was an honour to welcome Floyd Steadman, the first black caption of an English premiership rugby club, to our branch to talk to volunteers.
Floyd Steadman, former captain of Saracens, came to the branch to talk to volunteers who joined us in person, and on zoom from other branches, to talk to us about his experiences.
Floyd was taken into care at a young age after running away from a violent father. Floyd became the first black caption of an English premiership rugby team, and has also played for Barbarians. Beyond is ground-breaking rugby career, Floyd has also been a headteacher at several leading schools.
During his rugby and teaching careers, Floyd has faced unconscious bias. Talking about unconscious bias and privilege helped to make our volunteers more aware of these.
