Why we need your support
Your help will enable us to be there for someone in need, who has perhaps reached crisis point or who is struggling to cope.
Central London Samaritans, based in the heart of London, is the founding branch of the wider Samaritans organisation. We are an independent charity and wholly responsible for our own operational and fundraising activities.
Our volunteers provide confidential, non-judgemental, emotional support to anyone who is struggling to cope for whatever reason. We're here to listen round the clock every hour of every day and have provided this support without interruption since opening in 1953 at St Stephen Walbrook. At Samaritans, we receive a call for help every 7 seconds.
About the event
Run through the heart of East London in this unique half marathon. The route will take you down Mare Street through a carnival of sound, past the famous Town Hall, through the historic Broadway Market, and then through Hackney Wick, which is flush with vibrant street art.
There's no need for headphones with live entertainment and DJs to keep you motivated along the route. Whether you're a seasoned runner or thinking of taking on your first half marathon, the Hackney Half Marathon is the perfect event for you.
I decided to run the Hackney Half Marathon to give back to a charity that helped me in a very difficult time, and it has been one of the best things I've ever done. From training to fundraising, the experience has been both incredibly rewarding and challenging, but I would highly recommend to others. The work that Samaritans does is vital, especially in this cost-of-living crisis, and so to have helped in any way has been amazing.”

Totally wonderful day on the streets of Hackney! As a first time half-marathon-runner I felt very supported by the Central London Samaritans team, and was super-happy to be there with a charity whose work I believe in wholeheartedly.

Having spent a few months rehabilitating from stubborn injuries, I decided to take on the Hackney Half as a personal challenge and as an opportunity to support the great work of the team and volunteers at CLS. The atmosphere and support from spectators and fellow runners was fantastic and, having been a bit of a running sceptic for many years, has left me keen to sign up for other events going forward!

I'd been thinking about running a half marathon for a while, and not long after I became a volunteer at CLS, I heard about the possibility of running the Hackney Half to support the branch. It was the push I needed! Running for a cause gave me purpose, and was a way for me to fundraise for an organisation I really care about. It really was a great decision; what kept me going from mile 10 to the finish was thinking about why and for what I was running.
