Castlebar & Mayo Samaritans is a group of volunteers from Castlebar, Mayo, and surrounding areas, who provide confidential, non-judgemental listening. We do this via phone, email, and in-person to people struggling to cope. We were established in 2023 by volunteers from Galway Samaritans and we share their governance structures.
Our volunteers work from our centre at 21 Upper Thomas Street, doing shifts of around 3 hours, supporting all kinds of people who need a confidential, non-judgmental ear to listen at a tough time in their life. We talk to people on the phone and hopefully soon face-to-face in our visitor room. We recruit volunteers twice a year. If you have the time to give and are able to listen without prejudice, you can find out more about volunteering.
Our service is 100% volunteer-run. Nobody who answers the phone in Castlebar is paid to do so. We rely on donations from the community to keep the service running.
Fundraising
Our branch is 100% volunteer run, we don't have any paid staff in our branch. We rely on donations from the community to keep our branch running 24 x 7 x 365. If you would like to donate to our branch or an interested in holding a fundraiser for us. See our Fundraising Page for more details. Your support makes a real difference.
