Mark Drakeford, the First Minister of Wales, will today visit the brand-new branch of Cardiff
Samaritans to help with the official opening. Cardiff Samaritans have relocated from their previous
location on Cowbridge Road East to a brand new centre in Cowbridge Road West. The move has
been a major success for the city centre branch who were struggling with the upkeep of an old and
deteriorating building. The new and modern centre in Ely will allow them to better operate their
emotional support service and help the people of Cardiff.
The official launch event today will be opened by the First Minister of Wales which the branch hope
will raise further awareness of the importance of their presence in Cardiff.
Branch director Olga Sullivan said –
“We’re honoured to open our brand-new branch for Cardiff with the help of Mark Drakeford
today. Cardiff Samaritans have been here for more than 50 years and we’re constantly working
to help those who need us across our city. Our dedicated volunteers have continued to work
tirelessly during this move and I would like to thank them for their support. Most importantly,
we want Cardiff to know that we’re here and we will continue to work to support them”
As part of the relocation, the branch is taking the opportunity to call out for new volunteers across
the city. There are lots of ways you can volunteer for Cardiff Samaritans. You could become a
listening volunteer, helping them to answer calls and messages from people who need some
support. And there are a range of other opportunities available too. They are always looking for
support with marketing, fundraising, or even helping out with local events. It all depends on what
you're good at and what you've got time for.

“We’re always looking out for new ways to support our city and as we continue to grow, so does
the demand for volunteers. Volunteering for Samaritans changes lives every day, not to mention
your own’
