The Samaritans of Buxton and High Peak branch was founded in 1975.

Our volunteers come not just from Buxton, but from all areas of the High Peak. Our approximately 50 volunteers provide an incredibly valuable service to those in distress or despair.

In 2022 the branch gave 5728 hours (totalling almost 120 days) of support to people calling Samaritans, either through telephone support or through online chat support. That's an average of 150 hours a year per trained Samaritan.

We are passionate about the support we give to our community, we recently took part in Brew Monday at Glossop train station and we are always looking at new ways to support people outside of the branch.

  • If you are interested in helping Samaritans, either as a listening or support volunteer, please click on the link for more information Volunteer with us.
  • Each year, every Samaritans Branch is expected to raise their own funds to support their local service. The Buxton volunteers are grateful for the very important fundraising activities that help them continue to provide the excellent service they give.

It costs around £18,000 a year to run the Buxton & High Peak branch. One way you could easily raise money for us is to do your online shopping via Easyfundraising - a portal that provides access to all major retailers who donate a percentage of your spend without it costing you a penny. Follow the link and choose Buxton & High Peak branch as your chosen charity.

💚Named by the government as a critical support to vulnerable people during any crisis, Samaritans are desperately in need of community help ourselves if we are to continue our ‘always there’ listening service to those who find it most difficult to cope with the stresses of sudden bereavement, unemployment, increased isolation and myriad other pressure points.
