Coffee, Cake and Celebrating the Contribution Men Make!
On Tuesday 19 November Bury Samaritans kicked-off celebrations for International Men's Day at Ground Up Coffee Shop in Bury. International Men's Day is a key event for Samaritans as men are 3 times as likely to die by suicide than women and key trends from 2018 show that men aged 45-49 still have the highest rate of suicide in the UK. To raise awareness of male suicide and to celebrate the positive contribution that men make in society, we encouraged the local community to treat then men in their lives to a coffee and cake. We also ran a range of fun activities such as letter writing and card making to help people express gratitude towards the men in their lives. Thank you to all who contributed and to Bryan, owner of Ground Up Coffee shop, for hosting the event.
