The Bridlington Branch of Samaritans has had a presence in the town since 1994, offering confidential, non-judgemental, emotional support to people in our locality and beyond.
Unfortunately due to the pandemic, we are unable to offer face-to-face appointments.
The branch’s 30+ trained volunteers from many different backgrounds.
Our volunteers support over 5000 callers every year, offering emotional support to those who call.
We also have a number of volunteers working in other supporting roles, including Shop staff, Treasurer, Health & Safety, Maintenance and much more.
Our branch relies on fundraising & our charity shop to stay open allowing our volunteers to help callers in their hour of need.
Running our branch not only requires the kindness of our volunteers, giving up their free time at no cost but also funds to cover the building running costs.
Here are some figures from 2020.
- 5399 calls were taken by our volunteers
- Our volunteers spend at least 100 hours a week of their free time to keep our branch operating, this includes listening shifts, running our charity shop, and all the work behind the scenes from training, to leader support roles, to treasury and fundraising, just to name a few.
- It costs £500 a week to keep our branch open, this is mainly funded by our charity shop.
