Claire Thomas from Banbury, will be spending 3 days in August trekking 55 kilometres across the highlands of Iceland (the country, not the shop) to raise funds for Banbury & District Samaritans.
She will be starting in the picturesque region of Landmannalaugur and trek through lava fields and across multi-coloured mountains next to shining glaciers. Claire loves travelling and ten years ago spent time working at a ski resort in the French Alps; she has also visited Iceland before but that time she was following the tourist trail.
Claire was given the opportunity to take part in this adventure by her employers, Bibby Financial Services, who have organised the trip for 20 members of staff who are all raising funds for their preferred charities. Claire chose Banbury and District Samaritans as she has friends and family members who have been helped by Samaritans and although she knew she wanted to do something she felt that she perhaps wouldn't be right for the role of a listening volunteer. She said that the trek will be a real challenge - especially the camping, but the scenery will be awe-inspiring and she can't wait to relax in the hot thermal springs of the Blue Lagoon at the end.
