East Coast Samaritans are proud to announce the successful participation of our volunteers in the 2024 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Arklow Co. Wicklow.
This year’s parade was made memorable by our float featuring a retro-style phone booth, symbolizing our commitment to providing a listening ear to those in need.
Samaritans is a charity dedicated to reducing feelings of isolation and disconnection that can lead to suicide. Our volunteers listen in confidence to anyone in emotional distress, without judgment or pressure.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Waddington Europe for generously providing the vehicle that carried our iconic phone booth, and to Colm, whose skillful driving ensured its safe passage through the parade.
A special thank you goes to our dedicated volunteers who marched alongside the float, proudly displaying banners that spread the message of the Samaritans. Their enthusiasm and spirit were the heartbeat of our presence.
Our stand at the branch on Main Street Arklow was a hub of activity, thanks to volunteers who collected donations and distributed awareness materials, including pens, wristbands, and leaflets. Their efforts have not only raised funds but also heightened awareness about our cause.
The parade was further brightened by young Alfie, who, dressed as a leprechaun, delighted the crowd by giving away chocolates, lollipops and wristbands. His joy was infectious and exemplified the community spirit we cherish.
We are immensely thankful to Gerry and all the volunteers involved in crafting and painting the phone booth, a true labor of love. Additionally, our appreciation goes out to Liz and Martha, who went above and beyond to assist on this special day. Liz’s journey from Longford to join us is a testament to the solidarity and commitment of our Samaritan team.
As we reflect on this year’s parade, we are reminded of the strength and generosity of our community. Your support enables us to continue our vital work, providing comfort and support to those who reach out to us.
Thank you to each and every volunteer and supporter. Together, we are making a difference.
