Volunteers from East Coast Samaritans visited the Rotary Club in Wicklow, 29th July 2024 to discuss the vital role of the Samaritans service and the upcoming tenth anniversary of the Arklow branch.
Wicklow Rotary Club: Making a Difference in the Community
Wicklow Rotary Club is a vibrant and active organization dedicated to serving the local community and beyond. Meeting regularly at the Wicklow Golf Club, members come together to discuss and implement various projects aimed at improving the lives of people in Wicklow and surrounding areas.
Volunteers from East Coast Samaritans were delighted to be invited to the Rotary Club where they shared insights into the importance of the Samaritans’ work, highlighting the profound impact of being a listening volunteer. They discussed the origins of the Samaritans, founded by Chad Varah, and reflected on the ten years of dedicated service in Arklow, emphasizing the goodness and support provided to the community.
The volunteers also detailed the comprehensive volunteer-driven operations of the branch, including recruitment, interviewing, training, and the essential role of listening volunteers. They underscored the ongoing need for fundraising to ensure the branch can continue its crucial work.
The Rotary Club members expressed their appreciation for the Samaritans’ efforts and engaged in meaningful discussions about potential support and collaboration.
