On Tuesday, 16th of January 2024, a team of volunteers from East Coast Samaritans visited Coláiste Chill Mhantáin in Wicklow to deliver a school talk on mental health and emotional support. The talk was part of the Samaritans’ outreach programme to raise awareness among young people that help is always available for anyone who is struggling with life’s challenges.
The talk covered topics such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicide, and coping strategies. The volunteers shared their personal stories and experiences of being Samaritans and listening to callers who contact the helpline. They also answered questions from the students and teachers, and encouraged them to reach out to Samaritans or other sources of support if they ever need to talk.
The East Coast Samaritans also distributed Samaritan branded tea bags, wrist bands, pens, notices for the notice board, and mouse mats with the helpline phone number on them. These items were meant to remind the students and staff that Samaritans are always there for them, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by freephone 116 123 or email [email protected].
The school talk was well received by the Coláiste Chill Mhantáin community, who expressed their gratitude and appreciation to East Coast Samaritan volunteers for the visit.
