East Coast Samaritans, a branch of the national charity that provides emotional support to anyone in distress, held a sponsored fundraising walk in Arklow on Sunday, October 15, 2023. The walk was originally scheduled for September 24, but was postponed due to a weather warning.
The walk started at Deck Coffee House, on Seaview Avenue, where the walkers enjoyed coffee and some irish music by a local group called Na Cailíní. The group played many traditional tunes starting with 'Raglan Road'. The walkers then followed a signed route around the duck pond, returning by the path past the Arklow Bay Hotel to Deck Coffee House.
The event was a great success, raising funds and awareness for East Coast Samaritans, who rely entirely on donations and volunteers to operate the service.
East Coast Samaritans would like to thank all the walkers, sponsors, supporters, players from Na Cailíní and the very friendly and caring staff of Deck Coffee House for their generosity and kindness. We would also like to invite anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer or a supporter to contact us by email: [email protected]
Anyone who needs emotional support can call the Samaritans for free at 116 123 or email [email protected]. You are not alone.
