East Coast Samaritans were honored to participate in a mental health awareness event hosted by Tirlán in Bunclody on World Mental Health Day.
Tirlán, meaning “land of plenty,” is a company dedicated to supporting the agricultural community and promoting well-being. Tirlán is a world-class food and nutrition business based in Kilkenny, Ireland. Formerly known as Glanbia Co-operative Society Limited until 2022, Tirlán is a farmer-owned co-operative deeply invested in its communities and family farms
At the event, East Coast Samaritan volunteers had the opportunity to showcase the services of Samaritans and distribute awareness materials to the community. Volunteers spoke about the importance of seeking support and the benefits of talking through challenges to find coping skills and supports. They emphasized that discussing thoughts with another person or a Samaritan can help alleviate the fear of the unknown.
The event highlighted the kind listening ear offered by the staff at the Tirlán shop in Bunclody and the close-knit community spirit of Bunclody. Special thanks go to the organizers for inviting us to this impactful event, where we heard powerful and personal stories and gained valuable knowledge on farm safety.
Speakers at the event addressed many safety concerns, sharing techniques to prevent accidents and promoting physical health awareness and self-care. The Garda also spoke about safety on the farm and at home, providing essential tips to ensure the well-being of the community.
“We are grateful to Tirlán and the Bunclody community for their warm welcome and support,” said Damien Byrne, Director of the East Coast Samaritans’ Arklow branch. “This event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community and reinforce the importance of mental health and safety on World Mental Health Awareness Day.”
