Paul from DECK coffee house is raising awareness and vital funds for East Coast Samaritans
24th of July (24/7) is Samaritans Awareness Day, because we're here to listen 24/7. On this date and throughout July, we'll be running our awareness-raising campaign Talk to Us, to remind people that we're here for anyone who needs someone to listen.
Our friends and allies in the wider community are also helping with the campaign, and we’re truly grateful for their support and the initiatives which they’ve launched in order to help us spread this vital message.
In particular, Paul Sutton who owns the DECK coffee house, located at Coral Leisure Sports Centre, Ferrybank, Arklow - and which has been open for less than a year - is being very busy raising awareness and vital funds for our East Coast Samaritans.
Paul and members of our local Arklow Lawn Tennis Club will be hosting a ‘tennis-a-thon’ on Sunday, 2nd July. This will involve Paul playing multiple players from the club in a 12 hour stretch from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM. This continues in the great tradition of community spirit which led to the founding of the club back in 1920, and we’re highly appreciative of the support which Paul and the club are providing for us today.

Not content with playing 12 hours’ worth of tennis, Paul will again be exerting himself on our behalf as part of an event stretching from the 22nd to 24th of July. This time he plans to cycle 200km on 24th July on a spin bike kindly donated by Jenny at Jenuine Fitness. This will raise further awareness for the 24/7 campaign and, once again, raise funds for the branch. In fact, there will be two bikes available for the event, and the aim is for the second one to be used by a relay of Samaritan volunteers under the theme ‘Cycle with Samaritans’, emphasizing the message that no one needs to be alone when going through a crisis.
The event will also include a (hopefully less strenuous!) walk with Samaritan volunteers from the DECK coffee house around the Duck pond on the 22nd and 23rd of July, starting at noon – please come along to join the walk if you are free.
If you would like to help us to raise funds for the running of the Arklow branch of Samaritans, please click the following link to donate to our idonate page. Doing so will show your support for both the tennis-a-thon and the cycle event. Thank you so much for your support! Link to idonate page
We use this date to remind you that we are available to listen to anyone who is struggling – day or night, 24 hours a day, seven days a week - and to celebrate the fact that all our services are provided by unpaid volunteers.
