The Gerard Murphy Memorial Car Show and Road Run recently held a cheque presentation ceremony, where Brid invited volunteers from all services to South East radio to speak live on air to acknowledge their invaluable contributions. Brid expressed, "We are glad to support these essential services; it's about helping people and raise awareness that support is available."
Representatives from It's Good 2 Talk, Slaney Search and Rescue, Wexford Marine Watch, and East Coast Samaritans were present at South East Radio. The importance of the work these services do was highlighted through heartfelt stories and discussions about their needs. Alan from South East Radio remarked, "We would be lost without all of these services." John from Slaney Search and Rescue shared, "We have been very busy recently searching, and it can be heartbreaking, but we continue." Denis from Wexford Marine Watch added, "It is important to raise money to keep the services active." East Coast Samaritan volunteers expressed their extreme gratitude, thanking Brid, Pat, and everyone who made it possible to support all the chosen services.
Brid and Pat, along with their family, were thanked for their awareness and fundraising initiatives. It was noted that all the organizations chosen by Brid and Pat are voluntary services. Samaritan volunteer Barbara quoted Henry Sweisser, saying, "Sometimes our light goes out but is blown back into flame again by an encounter with another person." She emphasized the aim of offering emotional support by listening to people, discussing options, and speaking openly about their feelings, helping them find their way through.
The Gerard Murphy Memorial Car Show and Road Run have been an amazing support to the Samaritans. A volunteer from It's Good 2 Talk added, "We are here to bring attention to the importance of reaching out for help or being helped to reach out and talk."
Brid made the cheque presentations and thanked all supporters for helping to raise the vital funds. The donations were as follows:
- Slaney Search and Rescue: €10,000
- Wexford Marine Watch: €5,000
- East Coast Samaritans: €5,000
- It's Good 2 Talk: €5,000
Additionally, donations were made from Gerard Murphy Memorial to the Honda 50 Club for the Hope Centre and also to Feilachain, and another group who were fundraising raising funds for Hospice Care.
The next Gerard Murphy Memorial Car Show and Road Run is scheduled for the first Sunday in October 2025. Alan congratulated all services for their outstanding work.
